External media and relinking
Use relinkable source media without modifying originals or forcing imports into Assets.
Supported sources are H.264 MP4, VP8 WebM, Recorder-supported ProRes MOV, PNG/JPEG/EXR image sequences and stills, WAV/AIFF audio, SRT, and WebVTT. Actual codec availability is disclosed during preflight.
Use MediaSourceService.Relink to retain the source path and SHA-256 without moving the file. Exact relinking compares the candidate hash with the retained hash and makes no change on mismatch. A reviewed replacement can explicitly disable exact matching.
Original media remains untouched and outside Assets unless the user intentionally imports it. Capture Studio stores tokenized paths in evidence so external parent directories are not disclosed.
Rebuildable caches
Proxies, thumbnails, waveforms, and render caches live under Library/KiwiCaptureStudio. Cache keys include stable clip identity and source hash. A relink or edit invalidates the affected cache. Review > Rebuild media caches removes only rebuildable cache directories and preserves source media, project assets, outputs, evidence, and recovery.
Proxies are 960×540 at 30 fps and use H.264 on supported macOS/Windows editors or VP8 WebM on Linux. Final delivery always renders from the composition and selected output profile rather than treating a proxy as the master.
